The News John Smoltz has been hired by Turner Sports to join TBS' baseball coverage team, according to Turner.com. "Joining Turner Sports' Major League Baseball coverage is a great opportunity for me to stay immersed in the game that I love and I'm really looking forward to this experience," said Smoltz. Our View While he hasn't formally announced his retirement from baseball, this latest news should put to rest any rumors of him joining a team before the start of the 2010 season. There doesn't appear to be any reason to draft him. Read More

The News Roy Oswalt blanked the Red Sox in four innings of work on Tuesday, allowing just two hits and one walk with one strikeout. Our View News surfaced yesterday that Oswalt might consider retiring after this season, but he certainly didn't look like a pitcher on his last legs today. If healthy, Oswalt still has the ability to be an excellent starter. Read More

Packers TE Spencer Havner was arrested this week on suspicion of drunken driving after crashing his motorcycle in Northern California, suffering a broken shoulder blade. The California Highway Patrol says the 27-year-old Havner was arrested Monday after the accident about 2:45 a.m. some 50 miles north of Sacramento. Mark Humenik, whose agency represents Havner, says the player should be "fully recovered in short order." Read More

The News Kerry Wood said that there should be no cause for concern after he was scratched from his scheduled appearance on Saturday due to a sore right lat muscle, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I'll throw a bullpen Monday and throw against the Reds on Wednesday night," said Wood. "We're just going to treat it like I threw on Saturday." Our View There's always at least a bit of reason to worry when Wood is scratched from an appearance, as he's been on the DL 12 times over his career, though it looks like this time can be looked past. Continue to draft him as the Indians' closer, even though there's been a few rumors that other teams are interested in his services. Read More

The News Xavier Nady cracked two doubles and drove in a pair of runs in four trips on Tuesday while in the DH spot. Our View This was a step in the right direction for Nady, but the ailing outfielder won't be ready to play the field until June, so his fantasy value is still severely limited. Read More

The News Neftali Feliz surrendered three earned runs on six hits over three innings in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Cubs in the Cactus League. He had no walks with four strikeouts. Our View Feliz was roughed up for four runs over two innings in his previous outing versus Seattle, and it looks more like he will be slated for a bullpen role for the start of the season, rather getting a shot in the rotation. The ultra-talented young hurler would still be worth stashing as a setup men, and could work his way into a starting job down the road. Read More

Arizona will be the new home for QB Derek Anderson, according to the team's official Web site. Anderson's signing suggests that he'll receive some consideration to start as the team transitions following Kurt Warner's retirement. Matt Leinart is the only other passer on the roster with extensive NFL experience, so the two of them will battle for the starting job. Read More

The News Mark Kotsay was 3-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Rockies. Our View Kotsay is fighting for the White Sox's DH job, and is likely to enter the season in a platoon with Andruw Jones. It was thought that Jones would be the everyday starter, but Kotsay's fine spring (.391 avg, five RBI) has put him in consideration for playing time. Read More

The News Tim Wakefield was shelled for five earned runs on nine hits over 3.2 innings in today's 8-4 loss to the Orioles in exhibition action. He had no walks and one strikeout. Our View This was the polar opposite of his previous outing, when he fired three scoreless innings against Florida. The 43-year-old old knuckle-baller should have at least one more quality campaign left in him, if he can stay healthy. He went 11-5 last season, but was limited to 21 starts due to injuries. The News The White Sox have released Daniel Cabrera, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Joe Strauss. Our View Cabrera is a big guy who showed nice potential with the Orioles at the beginning of his career but has always had major control issues and has been very ineffective the past few seasons. Still, someone may give him a shot to tap into his potential. The White Sox also released Jason Botts and optioned Dayan Viciedo, Stefan Gartrell and Jeff Marquez to Triple-A Charlotte. Read More

The News Carlos Gomez went 2-for-4 and stole his seventh base of the spring in Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Royals. The News Justin Germano has signed a minor league deal with the Indians, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
